Spyware, adware, malware, stealware.
The list gets longer as new techniques are being developed.
But what are all these and what sort of threat do they
pose to the Internet user? On this page we try and clarify
albeit only briefly. Links are also shown to external
websites for more information and recommended specialist
software.

Spyware is computer software which infiltrates a person's
computer whilst they surf the Internet.
It collects certain types of information which can affect
the function of the user's pc. For instance it can install
extra (unwanted) software such as Search boxes. However more
substantially it can also affect or adjust connection speeds
and introduce viruses into the computer. As a result of
major concerns across the computer industry, software
manufacturers have incorporated antispyware within their
internet security software suites. If one does not have this
software installed the pc stands a risk of becoming infected
and the machine may display certain kinds of unusual
behaviour. Go to these websites and find out more detail on
the threats of this kind:

Adware
is a program which is also an unwelcomed intrusion when you
are on the Internet. As the title suggests, it contains
advertising! This often
manifests itself within a main program offered as a trial or
time limited period. The writer of this type of program gets
income by bundling adware with in his or her product. This
provides opportunity or funding for the development of the
product itself. How do you know you have adware on your
computer. Well, you don't always as they can be downloaded
without your knowledge. Internet Security suite software
normally incorporates anti adware protection within their
products. There are also standalone programs which will scan
your computer (sometimes for free) and identify adware on
your hard disk.
