After
days, weeks and months of use a computer starts to fill up with
data its kept in its memory (cache), temporary internet files,
images, old files and folders which have been deleted. Also, the
hard disk becomes fragmented. Just imagine the picture of a
someone throwing confetti at a wedding. Different pieces all
scattered everywhere. Well, that's very much how your hard disk
get's cluttered up. But there is an answer. Its called
defragmentation! Basically its a mechanism which will sort out
and out into order all the file fragments which have been thrown
around. This is a built in tool in Windows. However, it can be
slow and laborious. There is a retail and quite affordable
defragmenter on the market which is not only much quicker, but
more thorough. Its also can be set to work behind the scenes
when your pc is switched on using 'Set it and Forget it'
technology! The product is also approved by Microsoft. Don't
know why this particular system has not been implemented in the
Windows versions, but there we are! The product is called
'Diskeeper' and you can find out more by visiting their website
here.
Another
way to keep your computer running efficiently is to use the
System Tools feature, usually found under Accessories in the
Windows Programs menu. This will scan areas such as Temporary
files etc, getting rid of any unused or files which are just
sitting there having nothing better to do! One thing to remember
is that when you click on any delete option when using your
computer, it's image is still there on your hard disk. The only
way to safely remove or better described, obliterate these is to
use a File deletion tool. One of the best on the market is
called
Cyberscrub
which uses a combination of encryption and logarithms to achieve
very high security. When that tool has been used it is near
impossible for the data to be recovered using software or
hardware forensic tools. Keep you business and personal data
from prying eyes.... You wouldn't throw away your personal
details on a rubbish dump would you?
There are many other features within Windows itself as there is
third party software which can carry out many different
maintenance tasks. There are also Registry Cleaners and file
cleaners in abundance. However, the advice is to use these with
caution as they can affect the workings of your pc, and be a
form of spyware. However, most of them are OK and you're using
Windows XP or Vista you have an opportunity to roll back the
installation and any changes which have been made.
