So what is software? The items below are all classified as software..... Software refers to programs in a computer system which enables you to 'get the work done' In other it works for you. There are two types of software. One is System software and the other is Application software. These are very simply shown below and have two different purposes
SYSTEM SOFTWARE


Software that runs your computer known as the Operating System or 'OS' for short. Operating Systems are those such as Windows XP or Windows Vista etc

APPLICATION SOFTWARE

This software suite provides you with the ability to type letters etc, construct and maintain databases etc etc.	This software is installed to protect you from viruses and hackers, spam etc whilst you are on the Internet.
